ARMS OF LIBERTY

PROJECT LAUNCH

On quest to end all forms of gender based violence’s at both institutional and community level, the Foundation for Rural Development launched a project entitled Arms of Liberty. The initiative is funded by UN Women Malawi under the Women Peace Humanitarian Fund and Spotlight Initiative.

In line with article 3 (c) of the SADC protocol on gender and development of addressing emerging gender issues and concern, and the gaps observed on matters of enforcement of full enjoyment of women rights, the project conceptualized to enhancing safety, security and rights of women in Uniform, spouses of men in uniform and women and girl’s prisoners as well as women and girls residing in the TA’s of Chimutu, Chitukula and Tsabango.

During the launch of the project t, a validation workshop of the baseline survey report formed part of the activities. The study was conducted from 17th March to 4th April 2021 in the stated implementing areas with an aim of coming up with benchmarks against which the project is being measured on. The discussion of validation work shop contributed pertinent recommendations towards the success of the implementation of the project. Amongst these recommendations, the partners managed to agree on working synergies for the implementation of the project.

The launch brought together all key partners like MPS, MDF, Malawi Prison Service, Immigration Department, Ministry of Gender, Lilongwe District Council and Chiefs.
